100 Things to do before you die

Having lost a close friend, Sebastian downed tools and came up with a list of 100 things he wanted to do in his life. Hailing from Australia, he’s now moved to Switzerland and has spent the last year knocking things off the list. From marrying a stranger in Vegas to breaking a Guinness World Record. Sebastian has now completed 27 things on his list and we are going with him to tick off a few more.

1) Why did you participate in this campaign?
The 'Live Every Litre' campaign is all about getting the most out of what you have, and this is precisely what my own journey of "100Things" is about. 100Things documents my travels around the world as I attempt to tick off all 100 items from my bucket-list- getting the most out of life. I really liked the 'journey' type feel that Honda were trying to capture with this trip. It's very raw and something that I think everyone can relate to, everyone has a journey of some sort in their life.

2) Why did you pick your particular story?
I think that this is a story that could make people smile, make people think, and ultimately make people achieve. 100Things started as a simple list of personal goals but has quickly turned into something far bigger and it's a journey that I'd love to share. People from all over have joined on board and together we are out there chasing our goals. I'm very humbled that I have gained such great support and from this and it seems that there is a very important message in what I'm doing. At the end of the day, if i'm able to influence just one person in a positive way on this trip, well I'm a happy person. I also can't wait to tick some more items off from my list along the way!

3) What was the worst journey you ever did?
Well I look back on all my journeys with a smile on my face but I do remember an interesting time whilst cycling around Cuba last year. Basically after days of cycling we decided to treat ourselves to a leisurely horse-trek into the mountains. The highlight of the trek was a dip in a beautiful waterfall high up in the hills . What was initially scheduled as a 3 hour scenic trot soon turned into an 7 hour battle of survival as our tour guide managed to get us lost! Instead of swimming in the pristine waters of a natural wonder, we inadvertently crossed an active military training zone, helped a man who we found laying unconscious face down in a ditch, almost lost one of our malnourished horses to exhaustion, escaped an enraged local as we trespassed on his property and suffered insane sunburn. We arrived back into town under the dark of night only to realise how sore your groin can get after spending a day in the saddle. I couldn't sit for a week!

4) What is the most important thing that needs to come with you on a journey?
I love the idea of simplicity and so I love to travel with as little as possible. Having said that, I do love to take my ukulele with me wherever I go!

5) If you could take any person to come with you on a road trip who would you take and why?
I love to help people tick off items from their own bucket-list and so if there was something I could do with a stranger in order to help them achieve one of their goals, well I would take them. Other than that, I would love to bring my Dad with me! He is a hard-working man with a free-spirit like no other. He has supported me from the start and I know he would love to come and join me. Other than that, maybe I would take someone who could speak French so I could practice!

6) If the online community were to participate in your story what elements could they influence (for example costume, location, etc)?
I'm up for any challenges generally but looking at the potential items from my list that I will tick off on this journey, there could be some great ways to get the online community involved:

  1. I am writing a French song which I will perform in a French-speaking venue. My French is terrible and so any words or phrases, that people would like me to include in the song would be great (and possibly quite funny!).
  2. I am also considering saying 'YES' to everything for a week and this again would make some interesting stories if people were to ask me certain questions or tell me do certain things. I could end up anywhere, doing anything with anyone!
  3. A tattoo suggestion could also be interesting.
  4. With a possibility of auditioning in X-Factor (mentioned above) any fancy-dress suggestions would be appreciated.

A journey of discovery

If you had 1 week to live before you died, what would you do? Hi, my name is Sebastian Terry and a few years ago I asked myself this very question. A loss of a close friend triggered this thinking and before long I came up with a list of 100 things. Not long after that I decided to drop everything in my life to achieve the list. Leaving Australia almost a year ago, I have ticked off 28 items so far whilst also raising over $5000 for Camp Quality, the charity helping kids and families affected by Cancer. Having married a stranger in Vegas, performed stand-up comedy, and broken a Guinness World Record to name a few, my journey has been interesting to say the least. The most amazing thing about the trip so far is the response my website has received http://100things.com.au. What started as a trip about self discovery has turned into a journey that seems to inspire others and this is as humbling as it is exciting. My goal now is to encourage others to follow get out of their comfort zones! With this Honda sponsored project, I hope to travel around Europe ticking off various items from my list. These include: - Number 20- Say 'YES' to everything for 1 week. - Number 26- Help a Stranger (anywhere) - Number 54- Driving fast on the Autobahn - Number 49- Training as a Matador in Spain - Number 52- Sports Streak at a big game - Number 58- Sky Dive Naked in Switzerland - Number 91- Plant a Tree on a big green hill A journey like this will no doubt be a lot of fun and with the inclusion of having to say 'YES' to everything for 1 week, there is also a huge random element. Hopefully by ticking off items from my list, other people will see that anything is possible. Here's to life! 100Things... What's on your list?
